Wednesday, 2:30 p.m., W146–“Iowa: Fields of Genealogical Opportunity”
Genealogical societies, public libraries, historical museums, county and state government offices, state and local archives, college and university libraries and archives, private collections, and special groups: Marieta Grissom has visited many. She is passionate about the innumerable genealogical research opportunities in her home state. Over the years hundreds of people and organizations have saved and preserved Iowa records, some buried in storerooms.
Become aware of some lesser-known repositories and record groups as this presentation will dig into hidden treasures beyond those detailed in Marieta’s article, “Genealogical Research in Iowa,” in the December 2014 issue of NGSQ. You will come away surprised with the vast resources and will begin planning a trip to this heartland state.
Iowa is in her blood. One great-great-grandfather was born in Lee County, Iowa Territory in 1841. She grew up down the road from the family farm purchased by another great-great-grandfather in 1856. Other sides of her family were also Iowa pioneer farmers.
She has attended national and state conferences and institutes and currently serves as Board Secretary for the Iowa Genealogical Society.
Join Marieta as she shares “Iowa: Fields of Genealogical Opportunity.”
