Exhibitor Profile-Midwest Genealogy Center

Booth #109

The Midwest Genealogy Center (MGC) is part of the Mid-Continent Public Library. The largest library system in the state of Missouri, Mid-Continent has a long history of providing outstanding genealogy resources, both national and international in scope.

The Midwest Genealogy Center branch opened its new building in 2008 in Independence, Missouri; the library is easily accessed, located one mile north of Interstate 70 just east of Kansas City. Those who attended the NGS Conference in Kansas City in May 2008 had an opportunity to tour the building just before MGC opened. As part of a public library system, use of the resources at the Midwest Genealogy Center is free! Parking is free! Staff research assistance is free!

Amongst its many features, MGC houses a uniquely expansive circulating collection and almost completely open stacks. New technology is also a major attribute of the building. Microfilm reader-printers that save to flash drive, a self-digitization station, and significant database access allow researchers to use today's technology to assist their investigations.

Family histories, county histories, vital records, cemetery records, and periodicals are available in print, on microform, and through databases. Plan a research visit to the Midwest Genealogy Center either on your way to the NGS conference or on the way home!

Midwest Genealogy Center Manager Cheryl Lang will provide a lecture on our facility and genealogy resources on Thursday at 8:00 a.m.
